French Toast Roll Ups
I’ve recently discovered this amazing technique for delicious cinnamon french toast, and I thought I’d share it with you lovely people. It’s quick and easy, and turns out absolutely yummy.
You will need:
White Bread,
Strawberries (or fruit of your choice)
Chocolate to melt, (or cream cheese, or Nutella)
Egg
Cinnamon
Sugar
First, prep your ingredients. Cut off the bread crusts and set aside, chop the strawberries and melt the chocolate. Use a rolling pin or a flat baking tray to press the bread into a thin sheet
Place the strawberries and the melted chocolate about two centimetres from the edge of the bread, and roll it up tightly.
Crack an egg into a bowl and whisk it together with a tablespoon of water. Dip your little chocolatey roll ups into the egg mixture and then place, seam side down into a hot frying pan together with a knob of butter (hehe, knob)
Cook the rolls for about two minutes on each side, and in the meantime prepare a wee ‘bath’ of sugar and cinnamon.
As soon as the rolls are browned, use tongs to remove them from the pan and roll them around in the mixture until they are completely covered.
At this point I made a few little ‘soldiers’ out of the discarded crusts, using the same method, and they turned out really well. (My sister and I used to call these kinds of leftovers ‘slibberdoms’, but I think that was just us?)
This would make a dead fancy breakfast (or dinner, because there’s no right time to eat French Toast), and is best enjoyed snuggled up in bed watching Netflix (Doc Martin is my current dinner companion of choice).
Enjoy! (And don’t forget the slibberdoms…)
Big Love, PV x
